#16: I heard that military competency to Flight Instructor is going away? This is just a bad rumor, and it is false.

We can't verify where this rumor started, but here is some info:

1) Flight Standards in Washington still supports this military competency to Flight Instructor law (14 CFR 61.73) and has no action pending to reverse the law.

2) The inspector job guide for handling military competency to Flight Instructor applications (in National Policy N8900.180) was issued with an expected cancellation date of 2/28/13 to allow time for incorporation into FSIMS (but there's been no money for FAA to update FSIMS, so it still has not been incorporated). The cancellation date of that job guide does not negate the military competency to Flight Instructor federal law in any way. In addition, should that guidance not be incorporated into FSIMS prior to 2-28-2013, it continues to be used as valid guidance.
